Photo Ops?!

Post by Silly on Mon May 06, 2013 8:55 am

What is with the $10 photo ops at the smaller local signings now? It started out at just 1 location, and now quite a few of them are doing it. Pose for a photo for $10, but most of the time the athlete doesn't stand up from the table.

They had it at Maury Buford over the weekend. I mean really? $10 to take a picture with a punter??? I personally enjoy taking photos with the players as much as I do getting the autographs, but I will not pay for something so silly.

Blame MM for this. They see all the $$ they make on photo ops so they are trying to do the same thing. Can't really blame them if someone is dumb enough to pay $10 for a photo op with Buford.

Did you pay, just that once, and now you're stuck with the name Silly on the SPAAM board? Razz

Nooooooooo never would I pay. In the grudge racing scene everyone has a name. I was given Silly, not by choice.

I see what you are saying but I view someone like MM doing it, on a professional scale and usually bigger name athlete's different than a mom and pop shop bringing a punter, or a cup of coffee baseball player. I have no issue with MM doing it.

I guess it comes down to those (if any) who are dumb enough to pay, ruin it for us who are not willing? Maybe I am being selfish, or maybe just cheap. I dunno. But that irked me over the weekend. That is all.

Depending on the athlete, I may would pay $10...but I'd REALLY try to have someone behind me snapping a cell phone photo for free Smile

There are just too many events out there where you can meet players to be paying for photo ops...some of old timers, not so much, but still...

I saw they were charging the same price for a photo op with Bo Jackson that they were charging for his autograph...thats ridiculous...

I enjoy taking pictures with the celebs/guests. When I first started paying for autographs, I was determined to take a picture with the person if it was allowed....I was gonna get the most bang for my buck.

I noticed photo op charges at a non-sports convention several years back. $10 photo op charge with your camera. In my eyes, that wasn't bad...at least I could take a posed photo with them and not leaning over a table.

The way I see it, this is the progression of the hobby. The promoters will try to squeeze every penny from us. It started with tiered pricing and inscriptions charges. Now photo ops. I know Steiner does a complete MVP package for some of their contracted stars...meet and greet, 10 minute personal chat, autograph, photo op etc. Big prices too.

I'll pass on a $10 photo op with Tom Andrews.....but will pay if it's some good looking actress!
