What would you do...

Post by mrgoo1972 on Sat Apr 27, 2013 6:27 pm

Before I begin, I am fully aware that most people on here are Cubs fans and I'm a Cardinals fan. The question I have is this. If you had one of Bucky Dent's GU hats, would you send it to get signed? Every time I consider it, I think of O.J. Simpson robbing someone to get his stuff back. I don't want Dent to re-claim his hat, but I'd love to have him sign under the bill. Opinions (other than burning it) are appreciated.

Depends on how you would take it if it was lost. Don't send it if you consider it valuable. However you determine valuable could be cost into the item, sentimental or replacement value. If you're not gonna sweat it, take the chance...but anything can happen TTM. Damaged during delivery, lost by the post office, kept by the players, etc.

I used to do TTM many, many years ago but my views have changed on it, but I wouldn't send anything TTM that I couldn't accept not getting back.

Thanks, Desi. If I ever decided to get it signed, it won't be TTM. The hat is one of my crown jewels and I'd be furious if it did come up missing. I just like different views.

Write to him first explaining what you have. Maybe even send him a picture of it.

If he says it's legit and hell sign it... Mail it to him overnight... And pay for return overnight shipping.

Should be safe that way.

Not a chance I would send it. Just wait for a show or signing and get it there. It will be worth the wait.

Coach, that's what I usually do. Whenever I write to a player, I include a question card asking permission to send larger items. Most tell me to send whatever I like (like Virgil Trucks did). Dent signed an 8x10 for me but didn't fill out my permission card. The photo is a nice touch and I may do that. I am considering catching him at a show and having a service take care of it for me. I live way out in the boonies and am lucky I have high speed internet, so catching him at a signing would involve a long trip anywhere. I may just keep it unsigned so I can wear it to games (I'm a VERY superstitious fan). Since the jersey is a bust, it's my only REAL MVP piece and I think I would mess someone up if I lost the hat...LOL.
