In-Person (IP) Autographing Discussion

Post by coachk28 on Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:39 pm

First topic message reminder :

Since we have a couple threads dedicated to TTM graphing. I thought I would start one for In-Person (IP) autograph collecting.

Do you go to public signings, big sports autograph conventions, or hunt players down at games or practice?

Discuss everything that is in person autographing... your successes, failures, tips, experiences, etc. here!!!

So at the last minute KG55 and I went down to Harry Carays at Navy Pier for the world wide toast to Harry Caray... Today (March 1st) being his 98th birthday.

We got down there a little after 4pm... With the event starting at 545. All things considered it was NOT crowded... Maybe 5 or so autograph hunters there. Scheduled to attend were Ernie Banks, Bobby Hull, Otis Wilson, Dickey Simpkins, Ron Kittle, & Rahm Emanuel. Ron Kittle was a no show... not surprised. And Rahm Emanuel checked in via live over the phone. Dutchie Caray was obviously present, and Tom Ricketts showed up as well.

To make a long story short... I got Ernie Banks with a HOF 77 inscription on my Mitchell & Ness 1968 Cubs Road throwback jersey. Banks only signed for 5-8 people. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

On the cool free shirt they passed out I got... Dutchie Caray, Tom Ricketts, Otis Wilson, Bobby Hull, Dickey Simpkins, Ronnie Woo Woo, and the Million Dollar Quartet Band.

I'll let KG55 post about his successes.

I took a chance yesterday and went to Duncan Keith's charity event last night!

Well... I stood out in front by the valet parking and tried to get autographs.

It was taking place at Joe's Bar on Weed St. in Chicago. It was advertised that the whole team was supposed to be attending. Since it's only about 20 mins away... what hard could it do to stand out side for a little bit on a beautiful day and try to get some graphs.

I brought a couple pictures with me and a Hawks multi signed jersey I have been working on to donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The players who I was most focused on getting were Toews, Kane, Sharp, and Hossa. I brought a 16x20 which was already signed by Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook... that needed Sharp, Kane, & Toews. I also had a couple extra unique photos of Toews, Kane, & Hossa.

To make a long story short... I was the only graph hunter out their. Every player that showed up took a cab or parked valet and walked right past me through the front door. If it wasn't such an uncontrolled environment, wasn't so windy, and if I wasn't to overly concerned looking for/stalking Kane, Toews, Sharp, Hossa I could have had a graph from every player on the team. The only ones who I did not see show up to the event, (to my knowledge) were Toews, Hossa, Carcillo, Mayers, Lepisto, Brunnette, Hjalmarsson.

The only two graphs I even made an attempt to try to get were Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp. And it was a huge success! Sorry for the crappy pics... I'll take better ones later!

I probably could have asked for a couple graphs but I didn't want to be too pushy.

Some highlights of the evening....

- Ray Emery has a phat tricked out silver/white Hummer H2!
- When I asked Sharp for his graph, I told him to have fun at the event and that I wish I could stay and go to it... then he asked me... "What happened, did they kick you out?" LOL We both laughed and I said... no I have to get up early for work the next day.
- Corey Crawford had to wait a good 5-10 mins in his car before valet came and parked it for him. When he and his girl got out I told him that I would have parked it for him so he wouldn't have had to wait so long. His girl thought my comment was funny and laughed at least.
- Kaner was wearing a Cubs hat!
- Nick Leddy rolled up in a huge van cab with about 4 of the other younger guys on the team.
- For every Blackhawk player that was there... there was a dozen amazingly gorgeous babes! On a scale of 1-10... none of them lower than a 10!
- There was this one really hot chick... on a scale of 1-10 was probably a 15. Tried to get in with out a ticket... solely on her good looks. They told her to go wait at the end of the general admission line.

I'm going to go meet 85 Bear Steve McMichael later on this evening.

I need to get his graph on that photo I just got back from Buddy Ryan.

Then I hope to get a bunch of graphs for future forum contest prizes and to trade to other members.

I've got Bears, Packers, Texas, and WCW photos.

Well Cespedes doesn't speak english and we got him on his way out leaving the stadium. He just rolled his window down and signed for me and the other 2 people that were there.

I told ya! I don't make stuff up!

Fanmail.biz is ok if you want to collect Twilight or Disney autographs and fake graphs from celebs fan mail.

But for sports... it is HORRIBLE!

Feel free to invite any other friends/sports graph collectors you have on fanmail or that you collect/hang out with over to SPAAM!

I just need John McEnroe to complete it! It was given to me by my fathers friends who recieved them at the Volvo Classic

John McEnroe signs at 211 Central Park W New York NY 10024...but it may take a while and not sure you'd want to risk what you already have.

I have debated whether to send it or not, but I decided to wait until I get to meet him in person. I wouldnt want the picture to get lost or damaged or anything.
