In-Person (IP) Autographing Discussion

Post by coachk28 on Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:39 pm

First topic message reminder :

Since we have a couple threads dedicated to TTM graphing. I thought I would start one for In-Person (IP) autograph collecting.

Do you go to public signings, big sports autograph conventions, or hunt players down at games or practice?

Discuss everything that is in person autographing... your successes, failures, tips, experiences, etc. here!!!

I tagged along to the Bolland signing and here is my update:

On the 16x20 I played dumb and asked him what the trophy was he was holding even though I already knew. When he said it was the Junior's World Championship I said that's cool and asked him if he could write that on there. He said no problem and then stopped and said he couldn't remember which year it was and asked if he wrote "WJC" instead if that would be ok. I told him no problem!

The 11x14 he got a kick out of. As soon as he saw it he said wow that is an old one. I brought it in closer to him behind the table and showed him his bushy hair sticking out the back of his helmet and asked what was up with that. He let out a nice laugh and said that he use to rock the longer hair.

I won't get into how they tried to make me leave the line right as I got up to the table my 2nd time through the line (they previously told me it was ok) That will just make me angry talking about again!

Going after Chicago Bears Brian Urlacher and Charles Tillman today.... Alex Brown and Desmond Clark will also be there... but they are always around signing graphs.

Tonight's update is a great one. I am sure CoachK can add some to it.

Former Bears Alex Brown and Desmond Clark host a webcast or something like that. I have never heard of them bringing in guest before but this time I saw on Alex's facebook page that Brian Urlacher and Charles Tillman would be there. A free Urlacher autograph! I am there!

Easier said than done! He was there for 45 minutes. 30 of which he was on the radio show. Peanut showed up 20 minutes late so only did the show for 10 minutes and then they both signed for 15 minutes. Once their show started a line stared to form. Well I guess they didn't like the line we had because they moved Brian and Charles to the middle of the restaurant where everyone rushed them and there was no line order. Hold your item up and hope it is grabbed. I typically avoid these type of events.

Well my luck there was only 1 person between me and Brian and when that person got their item signed they moved to the side so I had a clear path. I handed him my photo and attempted to hand him a silver marker. He told me he didn't need it and signed my photo in black. At least he signed it in an area where the black can be seen. I think I was the only person there with a 16x20 so imagine fighting through a crowd holding this in the air so it doesn't get bent. That is why I did not get pics of them signing the items.

I also had Dez sign my vinyl. I did not have anything for Alex Brown unfortunately. And I got Tillman on a Mini

Here is a funny clip someone filmed talking about how Charles Tillman likes to "strip".... the ball from the opponent!

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Below is a link (I can't post the actual video for some reason) to a short news segment where you see Urlacher and Tillman in a mosh pit of autograph hunters! You can see me over Urlacher's left shoulder... I have a Bears hat on and I am holding out towards Urlacher a Bears full size helmet and marker in my hand.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

You can see Urlacher signing my helmet in the picture below...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

During the chaos I wasn't able to get a picture of Tillman in the act of signing my item, but here is a picture of him shortly after he signed my item... (Alex Brown is standing behind him)

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

As you can see from Silly's pics... neither guys have a good graph. My Urlacher one turned out ok... he signed in the spot I wanted him to, but his graph turned out a little light.

Tillman's graph turned out great... he signed inside the "C" on the side of the Bears helmet.

Yes i have him on a Championship wooden board with "the rat" inscription and on a stanley cup puck as well as a book which is in the next update. I do still have a cup photo i would like to get signed. I have at least 15 different Bolland autographs, maybe even 20+.

It was worse than it sounds. There was no line and all autographs were signed while he stood and with whatever marker he had in his hand. I like how mine came out but a lot of people weren't.

Here is an updated I wasn't planning on originally. I have met Niklas Hjalmarsson multiple times and never had to pay for him. However I did not have him on my team signed stanley cup book so I gave in and paid the $30. For that reason and the fact that he could very likely be traded here in the upcoming days and weeks. Gotta get him while I can.

It was PACKED, I know they sold over 300 tickets.

Here are the pics.
