In-Person (IP) Autographing Discussion

Post by coachk28 on Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:39 pm

First topic message reminder :

Since we have a couple threads dedicated to TTM graphing. I thought I would start one for In-Person (IP) autograph collecting.

Do you go to public signings, big sports autograph conventions, or hunt players down at games or practice?

Discuss everything that is in person autographing... your successes, failures, tips, experiences, etc. here!!!

Wisconsin Badger Pick Ups.

Post by HaWkEyESFaN29 on Wed Aug 22, 2012 7:21 pm

I went to the Wisconsin Badgers Family Fun Day over at Camp Randall Stadium on August 19th. I got some really niced autographed items. I waited an hour and a half line to get Montee Ball (mini helmet) and was one of the 150 people to get him. Then, I got about 30 Badgers to sign a team logo sheet, including Montee Ball, James White, Jeff Duckworth, Jerred Abbrederis, starting QB Danny O'Brien, future star Ricky Wagner and Coach Bret Bielema with "1-0!" inscription.

First IP autos

Post by The_Hancock on Fri Sep 07, 2012 10:32 pm

Went to the Cincinnati Reds games on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Tuesday we arrived a little late and were unable to get any pre game autographs. Wednesday was a 12:35 game and I made sure we were there when the gates opened. We sat very close to the field on the Reds side of the field and got to see Aroldis Chapman warming up. The prior night I saw Scott Rolen, Drew Stubbs, and Todd Frazier signing just prior to the game so, I didn't think much of Chapman being so close. Once Chapman was finished warming up he came over and started signing so, this was my opportunity. Being this was my first IP experience I didn't know how to approach it. The older lady in front of me ended up grabbing my ball and pen and reached it out there for me. However, he would only sign with a Sharpie and nothing else. The picture is attached. Next Todd Frazier is available to sign and since I think he has a great shot at winning the NL Rookie of the Year I definately wanted his auto. My girlfriend ended up getting his auto as she was basically sitting in our seats as I was a little further down the row. However she ended up smearing it slightly and didn't get the message until he was past my spot in line. I could have got a second but this is a hobby for me and didn't need/want a duplicate so early in my collection. We ended up only getting the two autos but I feel pretty good about it since I got a player that I didn't think I would have an opportunity to get. Neither signed on the SS so please inform me on how that effects the valuation of that ball. Thanks for reading.

Congrats on your first IP graphing success! Thumbs Up

Can't go wrong with getting graphs from two of the Reds future stars!

Not having their graphs on the sweet spot isn't that big of a deal.... especially if you plan on having these items stay in your personal collection.

If you ever try to sell them... you may have difficulty moving the items b/c they are not signed on the sweet spot, and one is signed in sharpie, and the other a little smeared!

If you want help getting your items signed on the sweet spot!

Order the....

It works! Although I have heard some athletes just give the ball back w/o signing it! It's cheap enough and worth the risk!!!

Also it is good practice to let the player know you want the ball signed on the sweet spot. I say this because the little time I spent in the minors, the sweet spot is reserved for the manager. Its one of those unwritten rules of the game. So a lot of times players wont sign the sweet spot unless you tell the to.

Saw some of my boys from the White Sox today....love these guys. Have gotten to know so many of them. I've been hooked up with bats, batting gloves and cleats for a long time now and have a rapport with a lot of them. My buddies Addison Reed and Hector Santiago came through for me today and added to my ever growing Chicago cleats/basketball shoe collection:

Addison Reed signed game used cleats:

Hector Santiago signed game used cleats:

Hope the Sox hold out and make it to October! I've have a few more things lined up with more players, so hopefully I get hooked up! I collect anything Chicago game used, like bats, hockey sticks, gloves, cleats and basketball shoes, so let me know if you have anything you'd like to move. Thanks!

Sad to see the season end the way it did...but I'm glad for the friends I made on the team. A couple more pickups from those friends on the team:

Jake Peavy game used cleats. I'm a big fan of Peavy's since his Padre days...one of the good guys in baseball. I always wanted a pair of his White Sox player exclusive cleats in my collection, and after getting to know me and my collection, he happily obliged me. The initials BP on the toungue of in honor of his grandfather, Blanche Peavy. Inside the tongue, are the initials JPWPJP, for his three sons, Jake, Wyatt and Judson. Then he has his number 44 embroidered on the back side of the shoes. These cleats have become a favorite in my collection!

Not sure what I will do with the "gold" ball as I dont like the way it came out.

J.J. Watt was nice. We didn't talk much because of the many people getting him but he was smiling and inscribed something we thought he would not (thought why not ask just in case and glad we did). Check it out!

Only doing photos this time around. It was kinda sprung on me last minute and didn't have time to get a lot of stuff ready.

Hopefully there will be other opportunities and I can get a ball or two done.

Also just a heads up in case you ask him to put "nations #1 recruit on anything" They just has another kid re-classify and now is a Sr and it knocked Jabari down to #2. So don't go asking him to put that on anything!!! Smile

Don't worry about that. If I try to get any inscriptions it will be something simple... like School and #.

Since all of the stuff that is out there on ebay and what not .... has no inscriptions at all.

All i know is each of the last few years I have worked the McDonald's game I have not asked for any autographs. That is going to change this year!!! I passed up Anthony Davis, Rivers, Kidd-Golcrest, Shabazz, Kyle Anderson, Cook, Austin.

I guess they are having the games at the UC again next year as well when Jahlil is a senior so I will need to make sure I do get asked back.

Kyuji Fujikawa IP Success

Post by BigChrisLit on Sat Dec 08, 2012 11:08 pm

On a whim my brother and I headed to Wrigley yesterday to see if we could get his signature. After getting blown off two times (on his way in and on his way out of Wrigley), our third time was a charm. We were able to get him after he loaded up on Cubs gear and left the Cubs store across the street. I got him on a ROMLB. I will post the pic as soon as I can get to a computer (posting from my iPhone).

Also able to snag Theo and Jed as well.
