Which Living Athlete Do You Think Has The Most Valuable Autograph?

Post by coachk28 on Thu Feb 21, 2013 11:49 am

Of all the sports... Which LIVING athlete do you think has the most valuable autograph?

We are talking strictly monetary value here... not sentimental!

You can make an argument for just one, or come up with a list.

Let's see what you come up with!

Maybe add Willie Mays and Sandy Koufax to this list?

The answer is Ali, and it's not close.

Mays stuff can be had for under $100

Koufax remains high, but still below $500 easy

Jeter is high

Jordan and Tiger are up there

But legit Ali stuff is the hardest to find and highest priced of a living athlete. Even higher than Neil Armstrong.

Jordan signs, you just have to be in the right spot at the right time. He signs at his golf outing in Vegas and at the celebrity golf outing in Tahoe. Same goes for Koufax, he's been signing up a storm in AZ at dodgers camp. I agree with feathers, ALI is by far the toughest IP sig you'll ever try and get. Mays? 16's were going for $99 on insider deals and mill creek. His graph is every where. Plus he still does shows. Aaron is tougher IP than Mays

I was wondering about Koufax's signing habits so far during Spring Training, good to see he's picking up the pen, I'm surprised.

A collecting friend of mine of Facebook got like 6 Koufaxs in one day at ST. A few baseballs, photos, and on a multi signed jersey. Granted he had some help with him. I didnt see him HOF any of the items though. And the graphs were very rushed.

Ali for sure....his stuff goes for a premium.

Jordan is high valued as well, but he does have the tendency to sign golf outings.

Koufax doesn't even come close to these guys as far as value. He charges $300 an autograph (I know...the Jewish baseball print I helped with did a signing with him and that was the bottom line to get him to sign 500 items).

Value and signing frequency are two different things. Garnett does not pick up a pen, EVER, and his stuff is no where near as valuable. Ali and Jordan will always carry a premium. I wish I wasn't so cheap when Ali did the Sun Times show many years ago.....

Ken Griffey Jr. was also notoriously difficult. I haven't seen anything out of him since he's retired. I'm glad I have an IP Ali in my collection that will stay there hopefully for many generations.

I would also have to go with Ali, then Jordan.

Agreed that it's Ali by a lot, then Bill Russell, then Jordan.   After that I'd say Pele is probably up there.
