New guy here

Post by tim vader on Thu Feb 07, 2013 5:59 pm

Just signed up here yesterday after doing some autograph hunting with my son this past week. We went to the NFL experience here in New Orleans and we grabbed a few goodies

Drew Brees
Mark Ingram
Malcolm Jenkins
Deuce McAllister
Bobby Hebert
Jim Kelly
Chris Long
Charlie Batch
Danny Woodhead

And my trophy Joe Montana!

That Montana is sweet, nice job. You had all these signed in person?

Only thing I'll say, if you're new to the hobby, you may want to steer clear of the white panel footballs, unless you really like them. I've seen way too many signatures bleed over time, regardless of the marker used to sign them.

Welcome to the board.

Yep, I have pics of most of them signing one of the balls. It was My wife, 2 sons and myself.

I thought the white panel balls would be better to use than the real leather because I have seen lots of bleed out in the leather ones. I wanted to get a "duke" signed by Montana, but I was talked out of it.

A high quality football signed with a silver Deco paint pen has never been known to fade to my knowledge. I have several in my collection that are near 10 years old and have had zero issues. Doesn't mean they can't but I haven't seen it. I only have official game balls (Duke) signed.

Those footballs will probably be fine, I just thought I'd mention it as a suggestion.

I agree also, white panel footballs done in silver paint pen or deco hold up, I have a couple also.

Definitely stay away from White Panel footballs. They do fade over time, blue more so than black. I had a sweet HOF RB signed White Panel ball signed by guys like Campbell, Brown, Sayers, Allen, Faulk, and a few others and it faded pretty bad over a short period of time. I have not seen leather with silver paint pen fade as mentioned above.

I honestly prefer mini helmets, photos, or FS helmets as they stand out better and do not seem to fade. However, to each his own. Whatever you want you get as you are the one who collects it and displays it.

I want the larger on field type helmets or jerseys mostly. I grabbed the white panels at walmart on the way out just to make sure we had something to get signed if we came across anyone. Glad we did!
