Markers & Pens: Tips & suggestions on what types you use for graphs.

Post by coachk28 on Wed Dec 14, 2011 10:37 pm

There are tons of different marker and pens companies out there. Not all of them are good for graphing. Discuss the types you do and do not like to use here.

myself... I like to use Elmers Paint Markers. Yes... The same company that makes the glue. You can buy them at Walmart.

They come in all colors and sizes, and I feel regardless of what surface you are writing on the colors always look vibrant. Silver, blue, and black especially look amazing.

Unlike other paint markers... Everytime I use an Elmers they work right away and always seem to write as if brand new. No feathering or skipping. Obviously they will run out eventually, but by then I've either lost them or let the athlete keep them to use, so I can't be to sure on how they write when the paint runs low.

Sharpie or Deco

Post by nednarb3 on Fri Dec 30, 2011 4:23 pm

I use a Sharpie marker or a Decolor fine tip. I try and stay away from the Sharpie unless I'm in a bind. I think the paintpens don't skip as much as the markers. I also like how the paint pens lay on top of the photos instead of soak thru, like a marker. You will have to see in person the difference, hard to see by a picture.

I'd like to hear what some of you use on helmets. Roger Craig and Marvin McNutt are going to be signing in my area in a month and I've never gotten an auto myself on a helmet before. Since Iowa has black helmets I was thinking of using something gold on it, but not sure if something works better than another on that kind of surface.

use a small paint pen or a small sharpie works also. Unless you plan on only them signing it then you can go with a bigger paint or sharpie.

Where is McNutt signing? I could use him on an 8x10 and/or Mini Helmet.

Yep, that's him. He's a stud. Became Iowa's all time receiving TD record holder this year. He's going to be signing for the Bob Feller museum, but the signing will be at Principal Park in Des Moines.

I've only got one thing signed in gold. So I'm not much help! Damn that Anthony Daniels!

Yeah he likes to sign in gold even on multi pieces that are all done in silver. I dread gretting his graph because he argues about placemet and pen colors!!!

Yes, I've had an issue with items signed in gold, so I stay away from gold when getting autographs. I have pucks from the early/mid 1990's signed in both gold and silver. The silver ones still look great, but some of the ones signed in gold have chipped even though they've been in cases for almost 20 years. Back then, I didn't know any better, so I just let the signers use whatever they had at the table. Now, for pucks, my pen of choice is the prismacolor metallic silver fine point paint pen.

Art, craft, abd hobby stores.

Hobby Lobby had silver and gold last time I was there.

I personaly am a bigger fan of the Elmers Paint markers... Yes same as the glue company. I'll take them over a Deco any day.

They come in all colors and you can get them at Wal-mart.

Coach k. What size tip do you use for a single sign photo with the Elmer's markers? Fine or medium?

Depends on who the person is and how their signature looks I would say.

Check the signings forum for the Mikita signing. I posted a pic of my photo signed with a medium elmer's.

The fine is just slightly larger than the extra fine deco i think.

I knwo you didn't ask me, but hopefully that helps.

It really all depends on the size of the item and how their signature looks.

Most of the time I used medium.
