Field of Dreams Closing - Woodfield

Post by Silly on Thu Jan 03, 2013 5:39 pm

I read last week or so that TriStar had bought out the Field of Dream stores. Today I was notified that they will be closing their Woodfield location.

Will do. I am heading over there in 15 minutes or so. I have a feeling their only deal will be on supplies. They are so over priced to begin with their sale prices might just bring it back down to normal. We shall see and I will let you guys know.

They are offering a 30% discount which by my math would still be more than I would pay for the items elsewhere.

I am sure you can talk them down a little but I am not sure it would be worth while. Maybe it will be better when they are closer to their closing date.... whenever that may be.

Right I think 50-75% would be more reasonable on their stuff. I really don't know how they stayed in business to begin with.

They stay in business because the small group of hobbyists don't shop there, but the general public does. The general public really don't know much about wholesale pricing or who does free signings frequently, let alone know of free signings. They buy there because they don't know any better....we do. And we're a small group as far as any hobby is concerned. Anyone who has veen to a comic book convention, fishing, car or video game convention knows that our hobby of collecting sports autographs and memorabilia is small compared to those monsters. Bottom line, is we know what a good deal is and now where to shop....the general public doesn't and Field of Dreams is one of the few places you could shop.

Yes I could buy this argument 10 years ago, but the general public knows about ebay, etc. so there must be alot of non-Internet-saavy people still out there.

Their last day is Jan. 27th by the way.

Yes, and those internet savy people are buying jerseys on ebay...not knowing their buying chinese knock offs, wearing them proudly at sporting events (sad).

The smart ones go to a brick and mortar store, to see what they buy, and Field of Dreams is a name for the general public to "trust".

The general public doesn't know what's authentic online, so they will go to a name they can trust....

Yes and I guess when you have such huge markups you don't have to sell that much.

They updated their facebook page today with a couple Cubs sales:

Castro baseball - $69
Rizzo Baseball -$69
Kerry Wood Baseball - $59
Andre Dawson Baseball - $59 (says with HOF)
Darwin Barney baseball - $39

I am debating picking up a Dawson ball. I have a few already but none with the HOF and I have always thought he has one of the best signatures in the game.
