Silly's IP Thread

Post by Silly on Sat Jan 28, 2012 12:47 pm

Instead of me adding to the IP thread as often as I would be I am just going to make my own. The first update will be from this past Thursday.

Thursday I went to the Dez Clark & Alex Brown show. They had Bears rookie safety Chris Conte as their guest.

I brought 2 photos for each player to be signed and also won a signed Alex Brown t-shirt in a trivia contest.

Take a look at the Florida Gators photo. Its an oddball size of 8x12. I had asked him to inscribe it HOF since he is being inducted into the college hall of fame this year. He said he really couldn't since he technically isn't in there yet. I told him not problem. He proceeded to sign the photo and put HOF on it but left the year blank and between some quotations and said if I come back he will add the year once it is official. I thought that was kind of neat.

For some reason when I hold my good camera I can't keep my hands steady so the videos are a little shaky. My phone however I can hold still. Weird. Also no pics of Dez or Alex signing the photos this time. My hands were full and we were talking so I was sidetracked.

I was able to pick up a Hull #16 rookie jersey during the Mitchell & Ness Black Friday sale.

I wanted him to signed it with his full name. I have seen a ton of Hull auto's but had never seen one like that. I requested Robert Marvin Hull and a bunch of inscriptions.

My buddy just dropped off the jersey at my house tonight.(THANKS JAMES!!) The story I was told was that when Bobby was signing it he stopped after writing Robert and said "I've never signed anything like this ever, I'm not sure how to do it". I guess he never writes his full name along with the middle name. Don't know if it is true or not but makes for a good story!

What do you guys think? It is now one of my favorite items in my collection.

Simple, I just asked nicely lol. But also a friend helped me. I wasn't present when it was signed and would have not gotten it without help or much more money.

Seriously though, if you have ever met Bobby he is one of the nicest people around. Happy go lucky just out to have a good time.

I'm gonna go to his appearance tomorrow as well. My main goal is to get a good pic with him for my desk at work.

CoachK and I went to Bobby Hull last night. I would say it was a success. I will let James post his own pictures, he mentioned he was going to. But here are mine.

I am going to do Otis Wilson tomorrow and possibly Kevin Butler too but more than likely just Wilson.

Great stuff as always Michael!

I got Otis Wilson back in 2009 when he was doing a grand opening at a Menards. I got an 8X10, McDonald's card and a Super Bowl XX trading card I got Dent and Hampton to sign.

Butler I got TTM.

Yeah I've gotten them both multiple times. But I'm always working on some sort of 85 Bears project. Everything I get tomorrow will be a multi signed items. I'm bringing my wife so I hope to get a couple

Two more tomorrow? Jeez.

That is awesome. Two programs and a poster. Well I can tell you I can't wait for pictures and I hope you have fun. I do have different projects going but I am not sure if I could do them all with the same team at the same time. Props.

Re: Silly's IP Thread

Today's update will be both Otis Wilson and Kevin Butler. But something happened at the Wilson signing that has never happened to me before. My friend actually make fun of me and call me anal about how I go about getting my signatures. I am always polite but I will ask you to sign it where I want your signature and how I want it signed.

Well this time I wanted 4 items signed. That is quite a few and too many for one person to try to get. I brought my wife with me and gave her 1 of the 3 posters and a mini helmet.

I had my wife ask him to inscribe "Mama's Boy" and "Junk Yard Dog". She asked, he said no problem and took the mini and the poster. I then got both of my posters signed. On the way home I asked my wife to grab the mini so I could take a look since I hadn't really seen it yet. Immediately I noticed something odd about the helmet. He put both inscriptions that we asked for but did not sign it!!!! There is no autograph on the helmet! Luckily he is around somewhat often so I know I can just have add it next time.

For Kevin Butler I did not go, I opted to sleep instead. I gave my '85 poster to a friend who was going to have another friends girlfriend sign it. She got the poster signed for me but unfortunately Butler went outside the border on the poster and it will be a PITA to get framed. I am sure the framers can mess with the matting and take care of it though once that time comes.

At least he signed your poster and the other thing you got signed.

Reminds me of a story I read how when somebody got Dave Stewart when he was pitching. He asked Dave Stewart for a personalization and then Stewart walked away, forgetting to sign it. Luckily he successfully called Stewart back over and he signed his name.

Dinner is ready so the update will be brief. I had Otis Wilson add his signature to the mini helmet that he inscribed previously but forgot to sign. He was not in a good mood and was late and short with everyone. I heard a lot of chatter about that.

An hour later Calvin Thomas came to the store and he was the total opposite. He was very friendly and loved my poster. He must have stared at it for a good 2 minutes solid before looking up at me and saying he thought it was cool and that he had never seen one before. I thanked him for coming out and that was that.

It's too bad about Wilson. He was nice when I met him.

You didn't go to the March 2009 MM 1985 Bears Reunion, did you?

I did not attend the reunion

But I do agree everyone has their bad day he was not rude or anything either so don't get me wrong. I've met him a few times and he has always been very nice.

Nick Leddy & Troy Murray

Post by Silly on Mon Feb 27, 2012 10:05 pm

Another cooking demo at a Meijer store out here. The same store that brought in Dave Bolland and Taj Gibson a couple months ago.

I got there about 2 hours early and was about 25 people back. Nick Leddy was scheduled to appear tonight and that he did however there was a twist to the demo that they never did before. Retired Blackhawk player and current analyst Troy Murray showed up and MC'd the event. Ended up basically getting a 2 for 1 because I had Troy sign something as well.
